Put an End to Toe Pain: Home Remedies for Capsulitis

Giddy up, partners! Pleasanton’s annual Cowboy Homecoming takes place October 24 and 25. If you’re yelling “yee-haw” as a result of toe pain, we better rustle you up some home remedies so you don’t miss out on all the fun.

If the pain is in the ball of your foot and at the base of your toes, the likely culprit is a condition called capsulitis. It stems from the inflammation of the toe joints’ surrounding ligaments. How in tarnation did it happen to you? Typically the cause is poor biomechanics that lead to an excess of pressure and strain on the forefoot. Treating it early is key to recovering without surgery, so you better get on your horse and try these helpful hints.

Apply ice to the affected joints to reduce swelling and discomfort. You may also want to try anti-inflammatory medications. Stay away from high heels—save those fancy cowboy boots for the homecoming. Instead, opt for well-fitting, comfy shoes. You can even slip in some inserts for added cushioning, or try special pads to protect the area. Stretching exercises can help as well, and taping or splinting the affected toes into proper position can not only relieve pain, but prevent the toes from drifting.

Once they start to misalign, surgery is the only way to get them back! Whoa, big fella—no one wants that happen! So follow these guidelines to end your toe pain, and if you have any questions, be sure to give Dr. Darren Silvester of Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic a holler. Dial (830) 569-3338 or come see us in Universal City or Pleasanton, TX. We’ll get your feet in tip-top shape.
